Presenting the suspects to court, Assistant Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, Anusha Samangapperuma, stated the following:

“Your Excellency, this investigation was initiated following an anonymous complaint received by the Bribery Commission. During this investigation, a telephone conversation was found. The telephone conversation took place between Charith Abeysinghe, who has been named as the first suspect, and a person named Herbie, who is said to be a friend of Harak Kata, who is in custody.

“There, suspect Charith Abeysinghe states that what happened to Makandure Madush could happen. Therefore, instead of removing Harak Kata’s DO and sending him to Boossa Prison, he can be sent to a prison that is suitable for his safety.”

“This suspect also states that he can provide the necessary relief for that.”

“This Herbi lives in the State of Dubai. He then informs Madushani, the wife of the cattle dealer in the State of Dubai, about this matter.”

“Later on March 25, 2023, the suspects including Rakhitha Rajapaksa leave for Dubai. These suspects meet Harak Kata’s wife at the house of a man named Herbi in Dubai. A person named Midigama Ruwan also attends the event.
